Boosting youth involvement in Landcare: a Queensland campaign PDF Print E-mail

Landcare Queensland is coordinating a campaign across three pilot regions in Queensland, aimed at boosting youth involvement in Landcare. The campaign, which will focus primarily on university students around SEQ, Cairns and Toowoomba will involve advertising in student publications and around campuses and interacting with young people at events such as music festivals.
 
Students will be encouraged to register to participate in a range of landcare activities taking place during Landcare Week, 6 – 12 September 2010.
 
Landcare Groups are invited to register to run an event during Landcare Week. A resource kit and one-on-one support is available to assist with coordinating a strong community activity. Modest funding may also be available depending on location and type of event.

Petition: Coal export risk to marine parks and coastal zones - strategic risk assessment under the EPBC Act 1999.  SIGN NOW!

Please sign this petition and distribute as widely as possible.  In the aftermath of the Shen Neng 1 grounding, we are calling for compulsory pilotage, safe and monitored passage away from environmentally significant areas, full cost recovery for accidents and a strategic risk management review for central QLD as a result of the increase in shipping due to increased fossil fuel exports.  This petition is in reference to the strategic review.  Go to http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/view/EPetitions_qld/CurrentEPetition.aspx?PetNum=1448

Biochar Presentation at TCOGA

Rod Lemin will be presenting a demonstration day at Toowoomba Community Organic Gardening Association on the benefits of Biochar.  Researchers believe charcoal-carbon to be a magic ingredient for our environment, crop production and nutrient depleted soils.”  “CSIRO are also studying charcoal’s natural filtering properties and studies are showing it can reduce the uptake of pesticides by plants and the degradation of pesticides in soil.”  Saturday 19th June, 10 am. Cost $ 10

Winter Solstice Pizza Day

Come celebrate the shortest day at TCOGA.  The pizza oven will be fired up at 12pm.  Bring your own handmade base and toppings. Be creative, organic ingredients are encouraged.  Bring your family with a basket of goodies and drinks, food etc. to share with your community!!  Saturday 19th June from 12-2pm

2010 Queensland Landcare Conference PDF Print E-mail
