EPISODE 3

GUEST:
Dr ANDREW JOYCE – Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University of Technology.
In this episode, Dr Andrew Joyce shares insights from his extensive experience in social policy, public health, and systems evaluation, exploring how systems thinking and political science can support transformative change. Drawing on the influential work of Donella Meadows and the evolution of the Intervention Level Framework concept, we discuss how strategic advocacy targeting specific leverage points within systems could drive more impactful climate and social policy reform. The conversation includes findings from Dr Joyce and colleagues’ 2023 research, which examines how climate advocacy groups in Australia could enhance their effectiveness by aligning their demands with higher-leverage intervention points. The episode concludes by reflecting on how this approach could empower environmental and social movements to better tackle climate disruption, biodiversity loss, and public health challenges through to 2040 and beyond.
